Who We Are

TeamstersWomenUnited is the brain child of Sister Elizade and Sister Schultz to empower and provide Teamster women with the tools and confidence to run for local office, run for elected office at the international level,  become business agents, and shop stewards and sit on national contract negotiating committees.  It’s about empowering Teamster Women with the “know how” to take their place at the table next to their brethren.  “WE HEAR YOU, DO YOU HEAR US?”

Our message was created to be engaging and to jump start a dialogue between Teamster women with other Sisters and with their Brothers about the lack of representation above the rank n file.

The concept for TeamstersWomenUnited began in 2017 with a speech about the rise of the numbers of women in the Teamster rank n file membership but the lack of mobility for women in Teamster leadership positions.

In 2017, Teamster women made up 29% of the membership.  That may not sound like a lot but it’s more than 400,000 strong union dues paying Teamster women who currently hold less than 3% of all union leadership positions.

We have all witnessed first hand what the voices of women speaking out can do….  The “me too” movement gave women a voice to take back their pride and their dignity and held those who violated them responsible and accountable for their actions.   Women’s ability to make changes didn’t just start  with the “Me Too” movement.

We too want TeamstersWomenUnited to be a movement, a movement for change in our union and that change starts with us SISTERS.

We believe many women want to run for office but either don’t know how, doubt their ability to do so, or are afraid to take the chance.  We want to help you tear down the Barriers that prevent you from running.
